She studied sculpture at The Slade before developing her work to encompass writing, storytelling and community-based practice. Annie’s art explores how we interact with the physical world – transforming plants, animals and minerals into objects of artistic, scientific and domestic value. Her site-specific storytelling pieces have been performed at Edinburgh Science Festival, Scottish Storytelling Centre, Summerhall, Deveron Projects and Hidden Door. In 2024 Annie was commissioned by Connecting Threads, the cultural strand of Destination Tweed to be the Berwick Bridge 400 artist in residence. Inspired by the material structure of the bridge, she created a set of 40 handmade watercolour paints, made from the same local sandstone that was used to repair the bridge. Each paint was named after an individual worker referenced in the 1624 account books which are held in Berwick Archives. The Neighbouring Orchard, a major ongoing artwork by Annie commissioned by Art Walk Projects, has seen a community of 200 apple trees planted out across Edinburgh’s coastal suburbs. The Neighbouring Orchard marks its fifth anniversary in 2025. As a writer, Annie has written a book about The Neighbouring Orchard (published in 2022 by Art Walk Press) and completed her Masters in Creative Non-Fiction at Manchester Writing School. She was shortlisted for the 2023 Nan Shepherd Prize for underrepresented voices in nature writing and is currently developing her award-nominated manuscript. The Neighbouring Orchard The Neighbouring Orchard is a dispersed orchard formed of 200 apple trees planted across North East Edinburgh and Musselburgh. Grown by individuals but rooted in community, the trees are grown everywhere from front gardens to children’s play parks. An ongoing, ecological artwork, The Neighbouring Orchard was commissioned by Art Walk Projects in 2020.
